The school’s caring ethos is at the heart of all we do. We seek to nurture the ‘whole child’ for the time they are entrusted to us. Alongside academic progress, it is equally important to us that the children are given opportunities to develop their social skills, self-esteem and independence.

As a primary school, we have the responsibility of laying the foundations for life-long learning. Watching the children’s progress throughout the school and seeing them leave ready for the next stage of their academic career is a privilege. My goal is to ensure that all children receive the greatest possible benefit from their time at Downsell and that they achieve their full potential, recognizing and celebrating their own achievements and aspirations as well as those of others. A supportive home environment is vital to the education of our pupils and we endeavor to build a strong partnership with all parents and carers.

At Downsell we pride ourselves in the high standards of achievement, of our pupils. We believe in offering a broad and balanced curriculum that meets the individual learning styles of all. We firmly believe that without enjoyment you cannot have excellence; so we strive to deliver a curriculum that allows for natural creativity and innovation.

We promote the love of reading and daily reading at home. Please try to sit with your child for a few minutes during the evening to ask what they are reading, listen to them read and perhaps read part of the book to your child. The children at Downsell have access to a wide range of books, we ask you to make sure that they are returned.
